PayrollX-Ray, the payroll automation analyzer

Upload a payroll export. See which roles AI can fully or partly automate, and what that is worth in wage savings or productivity gains. Free, no account, and your data never leaves the browser.

Analysis mode

Upload a payroll export

CSV from Gusto, QuickBooks Payroll, ADP, Paychex, Rippling, Justworks, or OnPay. It needs a job title column and a wage or salary column. The file is parsed in your browser and never uploaded. We store only the summary you choose to send us.

Not sure your file matches? Gusto sample, QuickBooks sample, ADP sample.

Or enter roles manually

No roles yet. Upload a CSV above, or add rows by hand (title, headcount, pay).

No account needed. Estimates only, based on published research. Your data never leaves the browser.

How PayrollX-Ray works

  1. Upload or type. A payroll CSV (Gusto, QuickBooks Payroll, ADP, Paychex, Rippling, Justworks, OnPay, or any export with a job title and a wage) or role rows by hand. The file is parsed in your browser and never uploaded.
  2. Match and score. Each role is matched to an O*NET occupation and scored against published LLM exposure research: Eloundou et al. (2023) "GPTs are GPTs", the Anthropic Economic Index, and O*NET task composition.
  3. See the map and the money. Per role: largely automatable, partly automatable, or mostly human judgment, plus hours recoverable per year and the wage and burden dollars attached to them, in cost savings or productivity mode.
  4. Optional guide. Want the how, not just the what? Request the role-specific step-by-step implementation guide ($100-$500 depending on role complexity). We email you a checkout link within one business day.

Methodology and honest limits

Exposure scores are research-grounded estimates, not measurements of your specific company. The foundation is free and published: O*NET occupation and task data (U.S. Department of Labor), the Eloundou et al. (2023) LLM exposure beta, and Anthropic's Economic Index of observed AI usage by occupation.

We frame outputs as hours recoverable and tasks exposed, never as guaranteed savings or job cuts. Partly automatable work assumes 30-60% time savings on that share. Payroll burden is modeled at 1.25x wages (employer taxes and benefits); actual burden varies. Treat results as a directional diagnostic, the same way you would treat a well-researched consultant's first-pass estimate.

Privacy is the product: no names, no PII, no raw rows stored. The CSV never leaves your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Which jobs can AI automate according to my payroll data?

PayrollX-Ray matches every role in your payroll export to an O*NET occupation and scores it against published LLM exposure research (Eloundou et al. 2023, Anthropic Economic Index). You get a per-role map: which roles are largely automatable, which are partly automatable, and which stay mostly human judgment. Clerical and back-office roles (data entry, accounts payable, billing, scheduling) score highest; management and judgment-heavy roles score lowest.

How much can AI automation save on payroll?

The free analyzer attaches wage and burden dollars to the automatable share of each role, including employer taxes and benefits. Most small and mid-size businesses find 20-40% of administrative payroll sits in tasks current AI tools can fully or partly automate. Results are directional estimates, not guarantees; your figures come from your own payroll data.

Is my payroll data safe?

Yes. The CSV is parsed entirely in your browser. It is never uploaded to our servers or any third party. We only store the summary you choose to send us: your email and aggregate totals, never names or raw payroll rows.

What payroll software can I export from?

Any payroll system that exports CSV: Gusto, QuickBooks Payroll, ADP, Paychex, Rippling, Justworks, OnPay, and most others. The file needs a job title column and a wage or salary column. No export handy? Enter roles manually instead.

What is the difference between cost savings mode and productivity mode?

Same engine, different question. Cost savings mode shows where payroll dollars come off: staff-hour reduction and the wage and burden cost attached to it. Productivity mode shows where hours come back: capacity returned to each role and full-time-equivalent gains, for owners who want more output from the same team rather than headcount cuts.

What do I get if I pay for the step-by-step guide?

A role-specific implementation guide built from your own analysis: exactly which off-the-shelf tools to use, the prompts and SOPs to start with, the build order, and acceptance criteria per task. The free analyzer tells you what to automate and what it is worth; the guide shows you how. Request it on this page and we email you a checkout link within one business day.
